Real client work
Most people will meet your podcast as a square about the size of a postage stamp. In the Apple Podcasts and Spotify grids, cover art uploaded at 3000 by 3000 pixels is shown at a small fraction of that, sitting in a row beside dozens of other shows, and a listener decides in a second whether to tap. Good podcast logo design in Ireland starts from that small square and works outwards. Every mark we make is drawn from scratch for the show in front of us, not adapted from a template, and the first test is always the same: shrink it to a thumbnail on a phone and see if the name still reads.
Podcast logo design that survives the thumbnail
That test rules out a lot. Thin script fonts disappear, long titles on one line turn into a grey smear, and subtle gradients go muddy. What survives is usually a short, heavy word mark or a simple shape with strong contrast against its background, so we keep the show name as large as the square allows and push anything secondary, like a strapline or the host names, to places where it can be read at full size.
Your logo and your cover art are not the same file
A lot of podcasters ask for a podcast logo when what they really want is podcast cover art, and the two do different jobs. The logo is the name mark that goes on your website, YouTube banner and merch. The cover art is the square image the directories display, and it usually holds the logo plus a background colour, maybe a host photo, maybe a mood that hints at the category. Designing the logo first and then building the cover art around it means you can refresh the artwork for a new season without losing the part listeners recognise. You can see how we treat a mark across different uses on our logo design page.
Episode thumbnails and video podcasts
If you film your episodes, the logo gets a second home in a wide 16 by 9 frame. YouTube thumbnails need room for a guest’s face and a few words of episode title, so the logo shrinks to a corner badge and has to hold up on top of a busy photo. We usually give a show a compact version of the mark for that corner, plus a thumbnail layout you can reuse each week so every episode looks related without being identical. The same thinking carries into clips and audiograms for Instagram and TikTok, which is where our social media graphics work picks up. A short animated version of your logo is useful too, as a sting at the start of each video episode.
Skipping the microphone
Search for podcast logos and you will find a wall of microphones, headphones, sound waves and speech bubbles. They tell a listener nothing, because every show in the directory is audio. The more useful question is what your show is actually about. A GAA tactics show and a true crime series need very different moods, and the cover should hint at the subject before anyone reads the title, through an object, an unexpected colour or just confident lettering. We would rather give you a mark that only fits your show than one that fits every show.
One look across a network of shows
Production companies running several podcasts need each show to have its own identity while listeners can still tell they come from the same stable. The usual answer is a shared system: a consistent typeface or badge for the network, with a different colour or illustration per show, so a new show can be added later without starting again.
Whatever the scope, you see concepts first, refine them with your feedback, and finish with files you own: vector SVG, EPS and PDF, transparent PNGs in colour, single colour and reversed versions, plus cover art sized and ready to upload.
Tell us about your show
We are based in Smithfield in Dublin 7 and work with podcasters all over Ireland, mostly by email and video call. If you have a show name, a rough idea of your audience and a launch date in mind, describe your podcast for a quote and we will come back with what we would suggest and an exact price.
Frequently asked questions
Is a podcast logo the same thing as podcast cover art?
Not quite. The logo is the name mark itself, the piece that goes on your website, YouTube banner, merch and social posts. The cover art is the square image the directories show, which usually holds the logo plus a background, a host photo or a short tagline. We can design both together so they match.
Will the cover art be the right size for Apple Podcasts and Spotify?
Yes. Cover art is supplied as a square image at 3000 by 3000 pixels in RGB, as a JPEG or PNG, so you can upload it straight to your hosting service and it will feed through to the directories.
We run several shows. Can they share one look?
Yes. We can set up a shared system for a network, such as a common typeface, badge or layout, with a different colour or illustration for each show, so new shows can be added later without starting again.
How much does podcast logo design cost?
It depends on scope. A single show logo is a smaller job than a logo with cover art, episode thumbnail templates and an animated intro. Describe what you need and you will get an exact price before anything starts.
