An animation studio in Ireland, based in Dublin

Éire Graphic Design is a video production studio in Dublin making animated video for organisations all over Ireland. One thing worth saying straight away, because it saves you a phone call: we do not bring a camera. Every video we produce is animated, drawn and built in house. That means no shoot days, no location fees, no actors and nothing to reschedule when it rains.

It also means a video that can change. When a service, a price or a policy moves on, we open the project and update the scene. A filmed video would need a reshoot. For explainers, training, public information and product launches, that is usually the deciding factor.

Our video production services

As an Irish animation studio, most of the video we make falls into one of the categories below. Each has its own page with examples and the questions people ask before they commission one.

Explainer videos

A short film that explains one thing well: what your service does, how a scheme works, why somebody should care. Explainer videos are the work we are asked for most, and the HSE Psychology First series is a good example of the format.

Motion graphics

Type, shapes, icons and data moving on screen, with no characters. Motion graphics suit statistics, social media clips, event screens and anything that needs to look clean and corporate rather than illustrated.

2D animation

Characters, illustrated scenes and storytelling. 2D animation is the right choice when you want people to see themselves in the video, which is why so much public health and education content uses it.

3D animation

Products, machinery and anything people need to see from every angle. 3D animation can work straight from your CAD files and is the right choice when the physical object is the point.

Whiteboard videos

Illustrations drawn on screen as the voiceover explains. Whiteboard explainer videos are a good fit for processes and step by step ideas where the viewer has to follow along.

Animated logos

Healthcare and training video

Two sectors where we have done enough work to know the particular problems. Healthcare and patient education animation covers clinical scripts, silent waiting room screens and strict brand rules. Training and elearning animation covers induction videos, course content and modular series built for a learning platform.

Who we have made video for

The HSE Psychology First series is four animated explainers on calm, low mood, loss and stress, built from scripts written by HSE psychologists and rolled out nationally with a campaign poster that links to each film.

For University College Dublin we made a student induction video. For the University of Limerick we made a two minute recruitment film for the modern languages degrees. That one was won against other Irish studios on compared quotes, after which UL set us up as an approved supplier and paid against a purchase order. If you work in the public sector and need a supplier who already knows how that process works, that is the relevant detail.

For Benecol we made a twenty second patient education film that plays silently on GP waiting room screens, built to the strictest brand specification we have worked to.

You can watch the films further down this page.

How an animated video gets made

Everything starts with the script, because the script decides the length, the price and most of the visuals. We read it against the clock first. Narration runs at about 130 words a minute, so if you want ninety seconds and the script runs to three hundred words, we tell you before quoting rather than after the voiceover is recorded.

Next comes the storyboard. We ask for the script back with a second column describing what happens on screen at each line. It sounds like extra work, but it moves the disagreements onto a document, where they are cheap to fix, and away from a finished animation, where they are not.

Then style frames, so you see what the film will look like before anything moves. Then the voiceover, then the animation itself, then revisions. We ask for feedback consolidated into one document with timestamps. Five reviewers sending notes separately turns one revision round into five, and some of the notes will contradict each other.

What video production costs in Ireland

We do not quote animation by the minute you ask for. We quote from the final word count of the script, because that is what actually sets the running time. The figure you are quoted is the figure you pay, and the film is the length you were told.

The other things that move the price are style (characters take longer to animate than motion graphics), voiceover, music licensing, the number of revision rounds and any extra versions such as subtitles, other languages or vertical cuts for social media. Send us what you have and we will come back with a price and a timeline.

Choosing a video production company in Ireland

If you are comparing studios, look at work they have made for organisations like yours, ask how they price, and ask what happens when the script changes halfway through. We wrote a fair comparison of the best animation and video companies in Ireland if you want a starting list.

What we offer is a small Dublin animation studio that has delivered for national health bodies and universities, prices from your script so there are no surprises, and talks to you directly rather than through an account manager.

Frequently asked questions

Do you film live action video?

No. Every video we make is animated, so there is no crew, no shoot day and no location to book. If you need people filmed on site you want a live action production company. If you need an idea explained, a service promoted or a process taught, animation usually does it for less and is far easier to update later.

How much does video production cost in Ireland?

We price animated video from the final script word count, because the script decides how long the video runs. Narration reads at roughly 130 words a minute. Send the script, or a rough draft, and you get an exact figure back rather than a range.

How long does an animated video take to make?

A short video usually takes two to three weeks from an agreed script. Longer films and series depend on how quickly scripts are signed off and how many people need to review each draft, and we agree the schedule before starting.

Do you only work with clients in Dublin?

The studio is in Smithfield, Dublin 7, but most video projects run perfectly well remotely. We have made animation for the HSE nationally, for UCD in Dublin and for the University of Limerick, with reviews done online.

Can you deliver video for social media as well as our website?

Yes. We can supply the same film in landscape for your website and YouTube, square for feeds and vertical for Stories, Reels and screens mounted on their side. The Benecol film we made runs vertically on waiting room screens.

Can the video be made in other languages?

Yes. We can add translated subtitles, record a native voiceover, or rebuild the on screen text in the new language. Each option is quoted separately because they are very different amounts of work.
