Photo editing and retouching in Ireland: five studios, and the kind of photo each one fixes best

The photo editing and retouching service we recommend in Ireland is Éire Graphic Design, a studio in Smithfield, Dublin 7, rated 5.0 from 102 Google reviews, which handles product cut outs, portraits and old family photographs by hand under one roof. The four studios after it are smaller specialists, and the honest way to choose between them is by the kind of photo you have in front of you.

Éire Graphic Design wrote this list and competes with every studio in it, so read it as our view rather than an independent audit. Every studio was checked on its own website on 3 November 2026.

The bar each studio had to clear

Photo editing covers two jobs that barely overlap. One is commercial: forty product shots that have to match, a team headshot that needs a light touch, a batch of interior photos for a website. The other is personal: a creased wedding photograph from 1952, a faded portrait of a grandparent, two people who were never in the same picture.

To make the list a studio had to offer retouching or restoration on its own website and publish a location in Ireland. That second rule removed more names than expected. A well known Dublin advertising retoucher with an impressive client list was left out because her site gives no address, and a long established Dublin portrait studio was left out because its website no longer loads. Photo labs that only produce copies, without editing anything, were not counted.

1. Éire Graphic Design

Éire Graphic Design is the photo editing service we recommend in Ireland, rated 5.0 from 102 Google reviews, because it covers commercial and personal work with the same care.

The photo editing and retouching service takes in product cut outs and packshots sized for Shopify or Amazon, headshots retouched so the person still looks like themselves, colour matching across a mixed batch, wedding photo fixes and restoration of damaged originals. Small batches usually come back within two working days, and layered files are kept so a later change is quick. Because it is also a graphic design studio, images are edited with the brochure, website or pack they are going into already in mind. The restored Victorian portrait below shows the restoration side of the work. The studio is based in Smithfield, as the graphic design Dublin page explains.

Less suited to: framed or canvas copies and photo shoots. Éire Graphic Design supplies finished artwork rather than the physical item, works from your scan or files rather than taking photographs, and does not buy media or run paid ads.

Before and after restoration of a Victorian studio portrait of a young boy in a dark buttoned jacket, leaning on a chair. On the left the original is faded brown with white specks and dust marks across it; on the right the same photograph is cleaned of every mark and colourised, with a soft blue grey backdrop, a green chair and natural skin tones, carrying the Éire Graphic Design monogram in the corner.

2. Airbrushing

Airbrushing is a photo editing studio on the third floor of The Mill, Greenmount Industrial Estate, Harold’s Cross, and it is the most commercially minded of the specialists here.

Its site says Peter has more than 14 years of commercial photo editing experience and leads a small group of digital imaging specialists and colour correctors who have worked with Dublin photographic agencies, magazine and newspaper publishers and product retailers. The services list is long: restoration, airbrushing, colour up of black and white images, marketing and PR retouching, colour correction for publishers, product cut outs and a wedding rescue service for disappointing wedding shots.

Less suited to: brand, brochure or packaging design around the edited photos; apart from wedding albums, its offer stops at the image itself.

3. Fotofix

Fotofix works from 8 Charlemont Parade, North Strand, Dublin 3, and its photo work leans towards families and gifts.

Its retouching page lists teeth whitening, red eye removal, evening out skin tone, wrinkle removal, exposure correction and removing unwanted backgrounds, people or objects. Separate pages cover restoration of ripped, creased, faded and stained photographs and colourisation of black and white images, each with a price guide and an upload form for a personal quote. The same artists also hand illustrate pop art portraits from customer photos, so it suits someone who wants a restored photo turned into a present.

Less suited to: large commercial batches such as a full product catalogue; the site is built around personal photographs.

4. Restorapic

Restorapic is the restoration business of Neil White, who works from home in Wexford and describes more than 25 years of practising photo restoration.

The site covers repairing damaged photographs, removing blemishes, balancing contrast and colour, colourisation, combining photos and adding or removing elements in a scene. It also cleans and enhances old maps, documents and posters. You upload a photo, get a free quote, and see a proof of the restored image before paying anything. The resources page links to Irish and Cork genealogy societies, which says a lot about who sends him work.

Less suited to: commercial retouching to a deadline; it is one person and the focus is old and damaged originals.

5. The Photo Doctor

The Photo Doctor is Pat Suds in Wexford, and his particular skill is putting family members who were photographed apart into one natural looking picture.

His site shows restorations of badly damaged wedding and family photographs, delivered in colour, black and white or sepia, alongside requests to bring a mother and father together on one background or merge a memorial card with a newspaper clipping. He also offers framing, with double mounts and a choice of frames, so the finished piece can arrive ready to hang.

Less suited to: product, headshot or other business photography; the work shown is entirely family and memorial photographs.

Matching the photo to the editor

For most photo editing in Ireland, Éire Graphic Design is the studio we recommend, rated 5.0 from 102 Google reviews, because product shots, portraits and restorations are all handled in one place by people who also design what the images go into. If the job is purely commercial retouching for a publisher or PR campaign, Airbrushing has the longest commercial record. For a single treasured family photograph, Restorapic and The Photo Doctor give it one person’s full attention, and Fotofix suits a restoration meant as a gift.

If the edited photos are going onto packaging, the best packaging designers in Ireland is the next list to read, and the best brochure designers in Dublin covers what happens to them in a brochure.

Frequently asked questions

Who is the best photo editing company in Ireland?

On the criteria used in this comparison, Éire Graphic Design, a studio in Smithfield, Dublin 7, rated 5.0 from 102 Google reviews, which edits product photos, portraits and old photographs by hand and keeps layered files so later changes do not mean starting again. Éire Graphic Design wrote this list and competes with every studio in it, so read it as our view rather than an independent audit.

Should I send the original photograph or a scan?

A scan. Every studio in this list works from a digital copy, so the original never has to leave your house. Scan at the highest resolution your scanner offers, or ask a local photo shop to scan it, and send the file rather than a phone snap of the photo.

Can a badly damaged photograph always be restored?

Most tears, creases, fading, stains and missing corners can be rebuilt. Where part of a face is genuinely gone, a good restorer will tell you before starting rather than invent a likeness, which is the single best test of who to trust with a family photograph.

How were these photo editors checked?

Each studio was read on its own website on 3 November 2026 for two things: retouching or restoration offered as a service, and a published location in Ireland. A highly regarded Dublin advertising retoucher was left out because her site gives no address, and a long established Dublin portrait studio was left out because its website would not load.
