Typography
Typography is the art and craft of arranging and styling type to make written language legible, readable, and visually effective. In logo design, typography is not merely the selection of a font — it encompasses every decision about how text is set, spaced, sized, styled, and composed. Typography in logo design includes choosing the right typeface or creating custom letterforms, deciding on weight and style, setting tracking and kerning, determining the size relationship between different text elements, and ensuring that the overall typographic composition is balanced, distinctive, and appropriate for the brand. Great logo typography feels inevitable — as if no other typographic choice could be right. It is the product of deep knowledge of type, refined visual judgement, and meticulous attention to the smallest details of letter spacing and form. Typography is frequently the primary or sole design element in a wordmark logo, making its quality absolutely central to the success of the design.
