Submark
A submark is a simplified, compact version of a logo — typically a single initial, monogram, or small icon — used in contexts where the full logo cannot be accommodated. Submarks are increasingly important in the digital age, where logos must function across a wide range of sizes and contexts, from large website headers to tiny app icons and social media thumbnails. A well-designed submark distils the essence of the full logo into its most fundamental, recognisable element, maintaining visual consistency with the parent identity while functioning effectively at very small scales. Submarks are typically delivered as part of the logo suite and are specified in brand guidelines with guidance on when they should be used in place of the primary or secondary logo.
