PNG (Portable Network Graphics)
PNG (Portable Network Graphics) is a raster image format that supports transparency. Developed as an improved, open alternative to GIF, PNG is now the standard format for web-use logo files. The key advantage of PNG for logos is its support for alpha channel transparency, which allows the logo to sit on any background colour without a white or coloured rectangle of background colour showing around it. PNG files also use lossless compression, meaning image quality is preserved exactly without the degradation introduced by JPEG compression. For logo delivery, PNG files are provided at multiple sizes for different digital applications — website header, social media profile, email signature, and so on. While PNG files are not suitable for high-resolution commercial printing (where vector files are required), they are the most practical format for the vast majority of everyday digital logo applications.
