Opacity
Opacity is the degree to which a design element is transparent or opaque. At 100% opacity, an element is fully solid and completely obscures whatever is behind it. At 0% opacity, it is completely transparent and invisible. Between these extremes, varying degrees of opacity allow elements to appear semi-transparent, showing elements behind them to varying extents. In logo design, opacity must be used with caution. Transparent elements create unpredictable results on different backgrounds — a semi-transparent shape that looks intentional and attractive on a white background may look completely different on a dark background or a photographic image. For most logo applications, it is preferable to use flat, solid colours rather than transparency effects. When a logo version for use on dark backgrounds is needed, it is better to design a specific approved reversed version than to rely on the transparency behaviour of a single design.
