Monochrome
A monochrome version of a logo is one rendered in a single colour, typically solid black on a white background or solid white on a black background. Monochrome versions are an essential part of every logo system because there are many contexts where full-colour reproduction is not possible or not appropriate: fax documents, certain newspaper advertisements, embossing, engraving, some forms of embroidery, and legal or official documentation. A logo must be designed to work as effectively in monochrome as it does in full colour — if a logo relies entirely on colour to communicate meaning or achieve its visual effect, it is not fully resolved. Testing a logo in monochrome is one of the most revealing quality checks in the design process: if the logo loses its character, legibility, or impact when all colour is removed, the design has a fundamental weakness that needs to be addressed.
