Lockup
A lockup is a fixed arrangement of logo elements in a specific, pre-approved configuration. For logos that consist of multiple elements — a brand mark, a wordmark, and a tagline, for instance — there may be several approved lockups: a horizontal arrangement, a vertical or stacked arrangement, and a standalone mark for use when space is very limited. Each lockup is designed as a complete, balanced composition with defined proportions and spacing between elements. Logos are never assembled freehand from their component parts in live use; instead, designers and communicators use the pre-built lockup files provided at the end of the branding project. This ensures that the spatial relationships between elements remain consistent and correct in every application. Brand guidelines specify which lockup should be used in which context, ensuring the right arrangement is always selected.
