Brand Identity

Brand identity is the complete visual system that represents a business, including the logo, colour palette, typography, imagery style, and supporting graphic elements. It is distinct from brand image (how a brand is perceived externally) and branding (the strategic process of building a brand). Brand identity is what the business controls and intentionally puts into the world. A strong brand identity is cohesive — every element feels as though it belongs to the same family and reflects the same underlying values and personality. It is distinctive — it stands apart from competitors and is recognisable even without the logo present. And it is appropriate — it resonates with the intended audience and fits the sector and context. Developing a brand identity typically begins with strategy: defining the brand's values, personality, positioning, and audience. This strategic foundation informs every design decision, ensuring that the visual identity is not merely attractive but meaningfully expressive of who the brand is and what it stands for.
